2,000-Year-Old Theater Street in Aspendos Unveiled

A significant discovery has been made in the ancient city of Aspendos. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced that a 300-meter section of the 2,000-year-old Theater Street has been unearthed. Minister Ersoy stated that this discovery will allow visitors to follow the traces of the ancient city step by step along the historic route from the ancient theater to the acropolis. The Theater Street starts from the north of the Agora and extends to the ancient theater, passing through the valley between the Roman State Basilica and the Temple, and reaches the Eastern Square. The bread oven located on the northern side of the street, which has preserved all its architectural elements, is one of the most striking findings of the excavations. During the excavations, sculptures of Hermes, Artemis, Aphrodite, Eros, and Nemesis, as well as geison-sima blocks, architrave pieces, and numerous architectural elements, were uncovered. The findings suggest that the structure was built between the late 2nd century AD and the early 3rd century AD.
