1800-Year-Old Symbol of Healing Discovered in Aspendos Ancient City

During the excavations carried out in Aspendos Ancient City, a 2.20-meter-high marble group of Asklepios and Telesphoros, approximately 1800 years old, was unearthed. Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy announced this discovery on his social media account. The 1800-year-old symbol of healing in Aspendos has been revealed.Within the scope of our Heritage to the Future Project, we have reached a 2.20-meter-high marble group of statues depicting Asklepios, the god of health, and his son and assistant Telesphoros, in the ancient city. It is stated that the statue group dates back to the late 2nd century AD and reflects the understanding of sculpture of the period with the pose of the figures, the folds of the himation, and the face, hair, and beard workmanship of Asklepios.
