New Regulation for In-Vehicle Technology: Rules for Drivers

The amendment to the Highway Traffic Regulation has updated the rules for the use of in-vehicle technology and equipment. Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi explained the purposes of the new regulation.Under the new regulation, the use of phone holders and vehicle cameras mounted on the front windshield, which do not obstruct the driver's field of vision, is permitted. Accessories such as air fresheners hung on the rearview mirror are also allowed as long as they do not obstruct the driver's view.The rules for in-vehicle multimedia and smart screens have been clarified, stating that factory-installed screens used for navigation, parking assistance, in-vehicle and external cameras, recording devices, and system settings will not be subject to penalties.

The use of sound systems, subwoofers, and amplifiers that meet the specified technical standards will be allowed. No penalties will be imposed solely for having a sound system in the vehicle, as long as the sound does not disturb the public peace outside the vehicle.

Minister Çiftçi also announced that the use of personal audio and video devices installed on seats or in suitable areas of buses and minibuses for passenger use will continue.The new regulation aims to eliminate the differences in application and information pollution regarding the use of in-vehicle technology and equipment.
