Fighting Against Marine Pollution in Antalya

The cleaning efforts against floating waste pollution on the coast of Antalya are ongoing. Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin stated that they closely follow the plastic and microplastic pollution recently observed on the Mediterranean coast and that they continue their work to protect the seas and coastlines. Using a sea broom, plastic parts, packaging waste, foam, wooden materials, and other floating solid waste are being collected and removed from the sea surface. A total of 27 cubic meters of waste was collected in the first 10 days of work. Governor Şahin stated that the Environment and Urbanization Directorate has started fieldwork to detect the source of pollution due to complaints about fragmented plastic waste in Antalya's coastal areas, in the sea, and on the coastline.

Şahin mentioned that some of the waste comes from within the country, while some comes from other regions of the Mediterranean. He added that the Ministry has sent official letters to the provinces bordering the Mediterranean to detect potential pollution sources, and the necessary research is ongoing.
