The American Red Cross has declared a 'crisis' situation for the second time in its 150-year history due to critically low blood stock levels. The organization has issued an urgent call for donations for all blood types, with a particular shortage of 0 Rh positive blood.According to American Red Cross officials, wildfires and extreme heat have significantly reduced blood donations. Just last month, blood stocks decreased by a quarter. The summer months see an increase in hospital blood needs due to traffic accidents and outdoor events.The American Red Cross has distributed approximately 3,500 more units of blood compared to this time last year, and current stocks have fallen to critical levels. Due to the perishable nature of blood cells, donated blood must be used within 42 days, making long-term stockpiling impossible.
