2,000-Year-Old Mystery in the Amazon: Pentagram-Shaped Structures Found Under the Forest

A study in the Amazon rainforest has discovered hundreds of ancient earth structures by scanning only 3% of the region. This discovery suggests that 1.25 million to 3 million people may have lived in the area. The researchers estimate that there may be a total of 24,000 to 30,000 earth structures in an area of approximately 181 square kilometers. The study used lidar technology to detect structures hidden beneath the dense vegetation. The researchers recorded 432 earth structures using this method. The structures include circular, square, and octagonal planned areas, as well as pentagram-shaped geometric structures. These areas, consisting of ditches and earth mounds, may have been used for ceremonial or political purposes. The researchers note that the construction of such large-scale structures would have required a large and organized population. It is estimated that during the Aquiry civilization's peak period, between 100 and 300 AD, 1.25 million to 3 million people may have lived in the region. The researchers suggest that if similar structures are found in other parts of the Amazon, the current estimates of the continent's pre-colonial population density may need to be revised significantly.
