Noteworthy Findings in Alzheimer's Research: Estrogen Use Affects Brain Health

In a study conducted by researchers at Stanford Medicine, it was found that women who used hormone therapy containing only estrogen had lower rates of Alzheimer's symptoms and dementia diagnosis. The study analyzed the health information of over 21,000 women and found that women who used hormone therapy had fewer Alzheimer's-related findings in their brains. In women who used hormone therapy, 18% had no Alzheimer's-related findings, while in those who did not use therapy, this rate was 10%. The study also found that when factors such as age, education, genetic characteristics, race, and high blood pressure were taken into account, hormone therapy use was associated with a 35% lower risk of Alzheimer's symptoms in autopsies.
