Germany Prepares for Record Borrowing to Boost Defense Spending

Germany is planning a record level of borrowing to enhance its defense capabilities in the coming years. According to budget projections prepared by the Berlin administration, approximately 838 billion euros are planned to be borrowed between 2027 and 2030. This borrowing is expected to push the total borrowing figure above 800 billion euros by 2030. The German government plans to borrow over 200 billion euros in 2027, representing a roughly 12.5% increase from this year. The bulk of the borrowing is expected to be allocated to defense spending. Germany's defense budget is planned to rise to 109 billion euros in 2027 and 183.6 billion euros by 2030.
