A Critical Stage Completed in the 2nd Power Unit of Akkuyu NGS

A significant step has been taken in the 2nd power unit of Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant. The inner protective dome of the reactor building's leak-tight area has been placed in its designed position.This process in the 2nd power unit of Akkuyu NGS has ensured the formation of the power unit's leak-tight internal volume. The operation, which lasted approximately 7 hours, was carried out using a mobile crane with heavy load-carrying capacity. About 40 experts were involved in the stages of balancing, fixing, and directing the metal structure and stabilizing its final position.The hemispherical inner protective dome consists of 15 assembly sections made of special structural steel. The assembly of the girder next to the power unit building took about 4 months, and a specially designed traverse was used for the lifting operation, taking into account the geometry and weight of the dome. After the dome is placed, the construction teams will weld the dome to the cylindrical section of the inner protective shell.Thus, the leak-tight volume of the reactor building will be formed. Additionally, the reinforcement and concrete pouring works of the shell will continue. Akkuyu Nükleer AŞ General Manager Sergei Butсkikh stated that the placement of the inner protective dome represents one of the most complex and critical operations in the construction of the reactor building.
