35 People, Including Adalar Mayor, Detained in Corruption Probe

A corruption and bribery investigation launched by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office against the Adalar Municipality resulted in the detention of 42 suspects, including Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat. After police procedures, 35 of the suspects were referred to court and later detained. The detained individuals include Deputy Mayors Hüseyin Yılmaz and Fırat Durak. The investigation alleges that the suspects issued permits in exchange for bribes and turned a blind eye to significant renovations and construction activities in archaeological sites under the guise of minor repairs. A large number of digital materials were also seized during the operation. The suspects face charges of bribery, embezzlement, forgery of official documents, and establishing and managing a criminal organization. The court ruled to detain 35 individuals, including Mayor Ali Ercan Akpolat.
