US Offers Iran Frozen Assets in Exchange for Strait of Hormuz Control
It has been suggested that the US has offered Iran frozen assets in exchange for limiting its control over the Strait of Hormuz and stopping plans to charge ships passing through the strait. Iran deemed this offer insufficient, stating that the strait is under its control. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, Washington and Oman are engaged in indirect negotiations with Tehran to resolve the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi emphasized that the Strait of Hormuz is “under Tehran’s control, not Washington’s.” Tehran had previously announced that it is working on a new legal framework for the strait, in coordination with neighboring country Oman.
