Heat Wave Alert in the US: Over 160 Million People at Risk

A heat wave alert has been issued in the US, affecting a large portion of the country. As deadly wildfires continue in western states, heat warnings have been issued for approximately 162 million people across 35 states, from the Great Plains to the Northeast.The heat wave is expected to push temperatures above 35 degrees in some areas and over 40 degrees in southern and inland regions. Experts warn that the perceived temperature could range from 40 to 46 degrees due to high humidity.Multiple cities, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Orlando, and Cleveland, are expected to be affected by the heat wave. According to data shared by the National Weather Service, the temperature in Chicago reached 33 degrees on Monday, with a perceived temperature of 38 degrees. This value is expected to rise to 43 degrees by the middle of the week.Experts warn that high temperatures during the night will make it difficult for the body to cool down, increasing the risk of heat-related health problems. Additionally, it is predicted that daily temperature records may be broken in approximately 100 areas across the country as of July 4.Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson held a press conference, urging citizens to be cautious in the face of extreme heat. Johnson announced that six community cooling centers will begin operating throughout the city.
