US ICE Police Ordered to Halt Traffic Stops

Following the shooting deaths of two individuals by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) teams within one week, authorities have ordered ICE teams to suspend traffic stops and inspections. This decision comes after a series of measures taken by the Trump administration to address irregular immigration.Tom Homan, dubbed the "border czar" of ICE, stated that this situation is temporary and will not affect ICE's detention capacity. In Houston, Texas, a Mexican national, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, who had been living in the US for over 30 years, was fatally shot by ICE police on July 7.Later, in Biddeford, Maine, a Colombian citizen, Johan Sebastian Duran Guerrero, was also shot and killed by ICE teams on July 13.The Biddeford incident is one of at least nine cases in which ICE teams have used force resulting in death since the US immigration policies began to tighten last year.
