The US to Impose Tariff on Imported Polysilicon Derivatives Used in Semiconductor and Solar Panel Production

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing a 15% ad valorem tariff on imported polysilicon derivatives used in the production of semiconductors and solar panels. According to the decision published by the White House, a minimum import price will be applied to polysilicon and its derivative products, and certain derivative products will also be subject to the additional tariff. The US share of global polysilicon production capacity has decreased from 50% in 2005 to below 2% as of 2024.
