US Aircraft Carrier Faces Mental Health Crisis: Soldiers Attempt Suicide by Jumping into Sea

The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been extended in the Middle East due to increased tensions, is facing one of the most severe humanitarian crises in its history. The giant ship, which set sail from California's San Diego in November 2025 and was originally scheduled to return in May, has been at sea for a record 250 days. The approximately 5,000 military personnel on board, who have been stretched to their psychological limits due to extended duty periods and harsh living conditions, have been struggling to cope. Family members of the soldiers, speaking to military publications such as Navy Times and Stars and Stripes, claimed that some personnel had attempted to take their own lives by jumping into the sea. At a closed-door meeting in San Diego, a family member of a soldier shared a message from their loved one, saying "I hope I don't wake up tomorrow," and strongly criticized the US Navy's command structure. The allegations went beyond just psychological pressure. US Congressman Mike Levin stated that the humanitarian conditions on the USS Abraham Lincoln had reached unacceptable levels. According to Levin, the ship's showers were moldy, most of the toilets were broken, and laundry services had not been available for weeks. Furthermore, the crew, who were struggling with hot water outages, did not even have access to basic personal hygiene products such as soap, toothpaste, and deodorant.
