US Repays $81 Billion to Companies Due to Trump's Illegally Imposed Tariffs

According to the budget data released by the US Department of the Treasury, companies have been repaid $81 billion since the beginning of the fiscal year due to the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which were later deemed illegal. After taking office for his second term, US President Donald Trump introduced additional tariffs as part of his economic stimulus policies, which included extra taxes on imported goods. However, the US Supreme Court ruled in February that a significant portion of these tariffs were unlawful and canceled them. Following the decision, the government was required to repay the importers who had paid these taxes. According to Treasury data, tariff refunds in the first nine months of the current fiscal year, which began in October 2025, reached $81 billion. In the same period last year, this amount was at the $5 billion level.
