US Fails to Meet Artillery Shell Production Goal: Stockpiles Dwindling

According to a Pentagon audit report, the US defense industry has failed to meet its goal of producing 155mm artillery shells at a rate of 100,000 per month.
The report states that the rapid pace of ammunition shipments to Ukraine has depleted US military stockpiles, and the desired capacity has not been reached.
The new facility established to increase production has not been able to manufacture a single metal component that meets contract requirements. As of March 2024, the capacity has only been increased to 36,000 shells per month, falling short of the target of 100,000.
