US officials claimed that there are divisions within the Iranian leadership regarding the current process. These developments come after three ships were attacked in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump had announced that the US conducted operations against targets in Iran in response to the attacks. The Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global energy trade, hosts a significant portion of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
