US Can Maintain Maritime Blockade Against Iran Indefinitely
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth stated that Washington has the capacity to maintain the maritime blockade against Iran for as long as necessary, even indefinitely. Hegseth told reporters in Panama, “We can sustain it for as long as we need to. Indefinitely. The US Navy can keep the blockade going in this manner. We'll just rotate the ships.”Previously, US President Donald Trump claimed that the US controlled the Strait of Hormuz and would maintain this status. In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi warned that the US had been making 'intelligence mistakes' for a long time in its war against Iran and should avoid making an even bigger miscalculation regarding the Strait of Hormuz. At the beginning of August, Trump announced that he was halting attacks against Iran in light of an upcoming peace agreement that included the opening of the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear program agreements. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that Iran and Oman had agreed on the geographical route details for ships passing through the strait.
