US Deports Venezuelan Migrants for the First Time Since June Earthquakes

The US has deported Venezuelan migrants for the first time since the devastating earthquakes in June that killed over 6,000 people. A flight from Miami carried 147 people back to Venezuela.The deportation flight, which departed from Miami, brought 147 Venezuelan migrants to the Anzoátegui state in Venezuela. The plane landed at General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport.The Trump administration had been deporting hundreds of Venezuelan migrants every week before the June earthquakes. However, the deportation flights were halted after the earthquakes.The previous flight before the earthquakes had returned 146 Venezuelans to their home country. It was reported that one of the hotels where the passengers of this flight were staying collapsed during the earthquake, resulting in the loss of many lives.Mervin Maldonado, the person in charge of the return program on the Venezuelan side, stated in a social media post that they had welcomed the returning migrants, saying, "They are returning home to reunite with their families, continue their education, join production, and contribute to the country's development."
