US to Impose 25% Tariff on Certain Brazilian Products

The United States has decided to impose a 25% tariff on certain products imported from Brazil, citing 'unfair practices that harm American trade.'The announcement was made by the US Trade Representative (USTR), stating that the decision was made under Section 301 of the 1974 Trade Act, following a year-long investigation.The investigation found that Brazil's practices, including 'forcing US tech companies to comply with political censorship, backtracking on anti-corruption measures, illegal deforestation, and barriers to access in the ethanol market,' created unfair competition for American workers, farmers, and companies.

Today's action is necessary to address these unfair trade practices so that American workers and companies can compete on a level playing field.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer stated that protecting American economic interests from unfair trade practices is a core aspect of President Trump's 'America First' policies.
