EU Extends Economic Sanctions Against Russia Until 2027

The European Union Council has extended the economic sanctions imposed on Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine until July 31, 2027.The sanctions cover a wide range of areas, including trade, finance, energy, technology, and Russian oil imports. Brussels has indicated that new restriction packages can be introduced as needed. The EU Council noted that the existing restrictive measures will remain in place for another 12 months.The EU leaders had agreed to extend the sanctions for a year instead of the traditional six months and called for the acceleration of the adoption process of the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.Russian officials have repeatedly stated that Russia has the economic resilience to withstand the sanction pressure gradually increased by the West over the years.
