82-Year-Old Australian Activist Passes Away After Completing 5,300 Kilometer Charity Bike Ride

Australian activist Bob Montgomery, 82, passed away just a day after completing his approximately 5,300 kilometer charity bike ride for motor neuron disease (MND) research. Montgomery and his grandson, Tom Malcolm, collected around 105,000 Australian dollars in donations during their six-week journey from Broome in Western Australia to Bowral in southern New South Wales. The charity ride, which Montgomery called 'One Last Ride', started in Broome and ended in Bowral, where they were greeted with enthusiasm by the local community. According to a statement released by Montgomery's family on social media, his death was unexpected but peaceful. Montgomery's efforts raised around 105,000 Australian dollars for MND NSW, a charity supporting those affected by motor neuron disease. This was Montgomery's sixth charity bike ride for the same cause, having previously contributed to around 300,000 Australian dollars in donations. Montgomery's motivation for this charity work stemmed from the loss of his cousin to motor neuron disease.
