The fire at the facility, operated by Lineage, was extinguished on June 24 after a week-long response effort. However, the odor from the rotting food continues to affect local businesses. A report commissioned by the city noted that the facility could be a breeding ground for green bottle flies, which can cause myiasis, a type of infection, in humans and animals if they lay eggs in open wounds.Lineage, the operator of the facility, announced that approximately 85% of the work to remove the spoiled food has been completed. The company has been given until August 13 to finish the cleanup efforts. In response to the growing pest problem, fly and rodent control equipment has been installed, and hundreds of fly traps have been distributed to residents.
