New Era for Cafes and Restaurants Starting July 1: Menus to Become Transparent
A new period is beginning for cafes, restaurants, and pastry shops on July 1. From now on, all food and beverage content information will be included on menus.With the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, it has become mandatory to provide information on the components and energy value of the food served in mass consumption areas. Nationally chained businesses are required to start implementing this on July 1.Consumer information will be provided through menus, signboards, brochures, QR codes, digital screens, and similar tools. For example, for a serving of meat dish, the information will be given as “120 grams of beef, onion, tomato, hot pepper, butter, garlic, red pepper, black pepper, thyme, and salt. 300 calories”.Information about allergens, alcohol, and pork-based components will also be included on menus. The regulation will be implemented gradually according to the size of the businesses.
