Oman Opposes the Idea of Charging for Passage through the Strait of Hormuz

Omani Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi emphasized the importance of the Strait of Hormuz remaining safe and open to all countries. During his official visit to France, Busaidi stressed that any regulations in the strait must be in line with international law, given its critical importance to the global economy and regional countries. Highlighting Oman's commitment to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Minister expressed opposition to charging for passage through the Strait of Hormuz, but suggested that new maritime service mechanisms could be considered for enhancing navigational safety and combating marine pollution. Busaidi noted that decisions regarding the strait's usage would be made in consultation with relevant countries and companies, and expressed support for the implementation of the agreement between Iran and the US, as well as the reduction of tension in the region. The Joint Hormuz Committee held its first meeting in Oman yesterday.
