Danube River Water Level Hits Record Low: Drought Affects Shipping and Irrigation

The drought in the Danube River, the second-longest river in Europe, has caused the water level to drop to its lowest level in years. The 10 countries through which the river passes are feeling the effects of the low water level. The National Water Administration in Romania announced that the water flow in the Danube River has reached its lowest level in the last 30 years. In Hungary, the National Water Administration stated that the water level has dropped to its lowest level since 2018. The low water level in the river has disrupted shipping traffic and imposed restrictions on irrigation activities. In Serbia, the low water level in the Danube River has also affected cargo ships.
